Professional Summary:

After working almost over a decade in pediatric critical care, I recently went back into training and completed a Sleep Medicine Fellowship. The goal was to add to my clinical knowledge and provide a much needed service to the children of our community, pediatric sleep medicine. Since graduation in July 2020, I have been working tirelessly with UBMD Pediatrics to develop the only pediatric-dedicated Sleep Medicine Center in Western New York. We opened the UBMD Pediatrics Sleep Lab on July 9th, 2020 and have doubled our volume and expanded our services. We provide both inpatient and outpatient pediatric sleep medicine consultations on all variety of sleep problems in children. This can include bedtime refusal, nightmares, sleep walking, frequent awakenings, bedwetting, poor sleep, snoring, insomnia, daytime sleepiness or any other concerns. We see patients 0 to 25 years old 4 days per week in two clinics in two locations as well as via telehealth. We have developed referral protocols for high risk pediatric populations (e.g. those with Autism, obesity or premature birth) and are planning to expand to in-patient sleep studies to screen patients before discharge.

In addition, I have been able to continue my portfolio of research in both critical care and have extended this into pediatric sleep medicine. While still working on several multi-center NIH-funded trials in the PICU, I have developed several local trials in sleep medicine including two related to how the pandemic has affected our sleep (one focused on health care workers and another in school-aged children). The intention is to use the information we obtain to inform public health initiatives to prepare our children and our workforce to enter into the "new normal" with better sleep habits.

Our center is dedicated to the education and welfare of all of the children in our area using clinical support, diagnostics, research and training of physicians in the area. We have begun partnerships with community providers for neuro-diverse children to develop a multi-faceted program to improve the sleep and CPAP use in children with special needs in Western New York.
