UBMD Internal Medicine

Professional Summary:

I am a board-certified internal medicine physician specializing in primary care. I work at the Hertel-Elmwood Internal Medicine Clinic, where I see patients and teach residents and medical students. I enjoy primary care because I enjoy developing lasting relationships with patients. I enjoy teaching because it is a great way to stay up to date on the latest medical knowledge. I believe I have as much to learn from working with students as they have to learn from me.

Before going into medicine I had an 18-year career in journalism at the Wall Street Journal. I was based in Brussels and New York and reported from all over Europe and the Middle East. I also won a number of awards for my writing on healthcare. In 2003 I was named a Pulitzer Prize finalist in the editorial writing category for "clear, compelling editorials on the Food and Drug Administration's delay in approval of new cancer drugs."
