I am a graduate of this university's fellowship program in Geriatrics.
I worked primarily as a Geriatrician at the Veteran's Administration of Western New York - working at its subacute rehab unit, long-term care, home-based primary care and spent the last several years being the lead physician and Medical Director of its GEM Clinic. This is short for Geriatric Evaluation and Management Clinic.
The GEM clinic has an interdisciplinary and holistic approach and 95% of the patients seen there have some kind of cognitive issue along with one or more Geriatric syndrome - eg polypharmacy, recurrent falls, frailty, etc. Because of its wealth of experience, this clinic became a lead clinic for the Center for Excellence for Alzheimer's Disease and other Dementia sponsored by NY State DOH. Aside from quality patient care that this clinic provides, this have been a site for teaching medical students, IM and family medicine residents, as well as training ground for several generations of Geriatric fellows.
I recently retired from the VA.
Since July 2019 up to the present, I have been the Fellowship program director for Geriatrics.
