Researchers Question the Mechanism of Retinitis Pigmentosa

Several health science websites reported on the collaborative genetic disorder retinitis pigmentosa research between the University at Buffalo’s Department of Ophthalmology and the University at Alabama Birmingham. Researchers expected to see retinal degeneration and retinal thinning. They surprisingly found none, calling into question the commonly accepted — though never proved — mechanism for RP59.
