Professional Summary:

Dr. Erin Ly, MD is a dual board-certified gastroenterologist and internal medicine physician at Erie County Medical Center (ECMC). With expertise in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) - Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis, she is the only advanced-trained IBD specialist in Western New York.

Dr. Ly attended medical school at University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine. She completed her Internal Medicine training at NYU Long Island School of Medicine. She returned to Buffalo for her fellowship training and served as the Chief GI Fellow in the University at Buffalo’s Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition Fellowship Program.

Dr. Ly has always had a special interest in IBD and spent four years before medical school working at The Mount Sinai Hospital in in New York City doing IBD research in the divisions of Gastroenterology, Immunology, and Colon and Rectal Surgery. After completing her Gastroenterology fellowship training in Buffalo, she pursued an Advanced Clinical Fellowship in Inflammatory Bowel Disease at University of Toronto, with the goal of bringing her specialized training back to serve the Western New York community.

Dr. Ly also holds a Master’s degree in Nutrition from Columbia University with her thesis work focused on diet and nutritional therapy in pediatric Crohn’s disease patients. She completed her undergraduate degree in Psychology at Washington University in St. Louis, and finds her background training integral to understanding the complex psychological and mental health factors associated with various GI illnesses and chronic diseases, such as IBD.

Dr. Ly is the Interim Director of Gastroenterology Services at ECMC. She is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at University at Buffalo Jacobs School of Medicine, and is the Assistant Program Director for the University at Buffalo’s Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Nutrition Fellowship Program.
